Why Did God Let the Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil Grow?

We love hearing from you and answering your questions!
Isaiah asked,
Why did God let the tree of knowledge of good and evil grow in the garden?
That’s a good question, Isaiah. God put this tree in the garden to test Adam and Eve because he wanted to give them a choice: love and obey him or disobey and reject him. He gave them a simple command: Do not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. The tree itself was not sinful, but it was meant to give Adam and Eve the opportunity to obey or disobey. Sadly, they chose to disobey and failed the test.
God wanted Adam and Eve to truly love him—to choose him. When Adam and Eve disobeyed him, their relationship with God was broken, and they brought sin and death into the world. Now all of us have the same sin nature from Adam (Romans 5:12). And “the wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23).
The good news is that, if we trust in Jesus, our relationship with God can be restored! We can live in heaven with him forever. Like Adam and Eve, we too have a choice: reject God or accept Jesus’ free gift of salvation. Acts 16:31 says, “Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved”!
