Warthog

The warts on this animal actually protect its face during attack. Since it does not have a layer of fat under its skin, the warthog is susceptible to drastic temperature changes. To escape these extremes, it wallows in mud to cool down, or it enters its burrow and huddles with others to keep warm.

Features

  • The warthog looks very similar to a pig or a hog, but it is known for its warty face and large, protruding tusks.
  • Warthogs are usually black or brown.

Fun Facts

  • The warthog lets birds perch on it and eat parasites that are on its body. This helps to keep the warthog healthy.
  • After a night’s sleep, a warthog will dash out of its burrow to get a head-start on any predator that may be lurking nearby.
