The North Pole
Jan 01, 2007
Would your family ever take a summer vacation to the North Pole? Probably not. You could probably think of a few reasons not to go to the North Pole for summer vacation. It is very, very cold and very, very far away!
The North Pole is part of the Arctic region. During the summer months in the Arctic, the sun shines all day and all night. During the winter months, the sun doesn’t shine at all.
How cold is it?
The average temperatures in the Arctic Circle range from -30°F (-34°C) during the winter up to 60°F (16°C) during the summer. Since a layer of soil is frozen all year long (permafrost), only a limited variety of plants and animals can survive in this region.
