Searching the Scriptures: Give Thanks

A concordance is an extremely useful tool for studying the Bible. It provides an index of the principle words used in a particular translation of the Bible. Each occurrence is listed in its immediate context. Sometimes a Bible dictionary or similar thematic index can also be helpful in providing references pertinent to a particular idea. If you have a study Bible, it will likely include a selective concordance in the back manner.

Using your concordance, search for keywords such as thanks, thanksgiving, and grateful. Record your observations on paper. Then, based on the Scriptures you’ve found, answer the questions.

  1. What verses did you find that provide specific instructions to believers?
  2. In the descriptive passages, how is thanksgiving expressed?
  3. What examples did you find of those who gave thanks to God?
