When It Happened: 455–416 BC

Chapters: 13

Key People: Nehemiah, Ezra

Summary: Nehemiah knew that things were not good in Jerusalem. He prayed that the Lord would have mercy, forgive the people, and allow him to return to help rebuild the wall of the city. The Lord moved in the heart of King Artaxerxes, and he allowed Nehemiah to return to Jerusalem. After the wall was completed, the people asked Ezra to read from God’s Word. As they heard the Word of God, their hearts were changed, and they recalled God’s holiness. They wept over their sin and worshipped God.

About God: God demands and deserves all praise and glory. His Word alone can change hearts.
