Surface tension is a force that attracts water molecules to each other. In a sandcastle, water molecules coat the grains of sand and hold them together like glue. When you’re building a sandcastle, you need just the right amount of water. Too little and your castle will crumble. Too much and your castle will collapse.

Psalm 139:17–18 says,

“How precious to me are your thoughts, O God! How vast is the sum of them! If I would count them, they are more than the sand.”

When you build a sandcastle, remember that the God who created the gigantic ocean and every grain of sand thinks about you!

How to build a sturdy sandcastle

1. Make a large pile of sand and soak it with water.
2. Fill a bucket with dry sand.
3. Add water to the bucket and stir to mix the water and sand together.
4. On top of your wet sand pile, flip the bucket upside down.
5. Repeat these steps with smaller and smaller buckets to create your sandcastle.

TIP: Use a shovel, spatula, or stick to carve windows, doors, and other features into your castle. Decorate it with shells and other items you collect from the beach.
