Aly (age 10) asks,
“Who came up with the idea of the Bible?”
Great question, Aly!
The simple answer is, God did! The Bible tells us that there are some things we can tell about God from creation itself (Romans 1). But for us to know specific things about who God is and how to have a relationship with him, we needed God to tell us in a way that we could understand.
God didn’t give the whole Bible all at once, he spoke through people at different times in history—it took about 1,500 years from the earliest book to the latest, and there are 66 books in total. God revealed more and more about himself over time, eventually ending up with God the Son coming to earth as a human, Jesus.
We haven’t seen Jesus in the flesh like the people in his day did, so we have the trustworthy testimony of the Bible to tell us about him. And it tells us that if we trust in him for the forgiveness of our sins, we will see him and live forever with him when he comes again!
