Where Is Noah’s Ark?

Apr 28, 2025

Hannah B. (age 13) asked,

“Where is Noah’s ark?”

Thanks for your question, Hannah!

In Genesis 8:4, we read that at the end of the flood, “the ark came to rest on the mountains of Ararat.” Most people think these mountains are located somewhere in the Middle East, possibly the present-day country of Turkey.

Archaeologists (scientists who study people and objects from history) have been searching this area for many years, but Noah’s ark has never been found.

The global flood of Noah’s day took place about 4,500 years ago, so it is possible that the wood Noah used to build the ark has disintegrated (broken down) by now. It is also possible that Noah and his family took the ark apart and used the wood as lumber to construct new buildings after the flood ended.

We might never find Noah’s ark, but we can still trust that it existed and that it kept Noah, his family, and some of every kind of animal alive because that is what God’s Word—the Bible—tells us.
