God’s Sewer System

Jan 01, 2019

What’s your favorite place to relax? I like to enter God’s sewage system.

When I bike down wooded trails, nothing thrills me like pedaling along a rippling river. Memories flood my mind. Reading Walden Pond as a boy and trout fishing in the mountains of Colorado, . . .

Lately, I relish another insight. God uses the river—with its pebbles, bulrushes, and silt—to cleanse and sustain life. Sewage engineers are still studying its unfathomable secrets.

I remember when as a new believer, I read about the wisdom of the water cycle: “From whence the rivers come, thither they return again” (Ecclesiastes 1:7 (KJV)). Every time I pass this way, I think of the God who saves and the beautiful ways he chose to cleanse his beloved works—including me!
