Mia the Connemara Sheep
Hi, it’s great to meet you! My name is Mia—it’s a pretty popular name here in Ireland.
Do you know what your name means? I love when names have special meanings. Mia means “mine.” My shepherd named me that because he’s glad I belong to him.
Speaking of my shepherd, I love him! In the mornings, he leads my flock out to our pasture, where I love to play games in the green grass. Some days, storm clouds appear, and I become scared, but it’s never long before I hear my shepherd calling “Mia!” and the names of my friends. I feel comfort when I hear his voice, and he leads us back to the safety of our home.
He makes sure to never lose one of us—even though sometimes we like to wander off when we see a cool-looking butterfly. My shepherd has even protected us from wolves that have tried to kill us. He is someone I can trust to lead me to green pastures and keep me safe.
If you have trusted in Jesus for salvation from your sin, the Bible calls you sheep and God your shepherd! You were once a lost and wandering sheep, but Jesus, the Good Shepherd, laid down his life for you to be brought into his flock (John 10:11). Psalm 100:3 says, “We are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.” Because God is your shepherd, you can run to him when you are afraid! He will take care of you and protect you from evil.
My shepherd is wonderful, but God is infinitely better! If he is your shepherd, you can say that “Jesus is mine” and that you have everything you need.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. (Psalm 23:1)
