Blake P. (age 10) asked,

“How was God created?”

Good question, Blake!

God is eternal, meaning he has existed forever. This means that God was never created and has no end—he’s always been there and always will be. Because he has no end or beginning, he also sees time much differently than we do.

For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past, or as a watch in the night. (Psalm 90:4)

Since we know that God has been here before he created the heavens and the earth and before he created day and night, we know he has existed before he created time; he exists outside of it. Since we don’t live on earth forever, we have a hard time comprehending God’s eternity. As God knows this and created us this way, he put eternity in our hearts through the greatness of his love.

He has made everything beautiful in its time. Also, he has put eternity into man’s heart, yet so that he cannot find out what God has done from the beginning to the end. (Ecclesiastes 3:11)

Though God is much greater than us and hard to fully understand, he has physically revealed himself to humanity as Jesus Christ. We may not be able to understand all of God’s eternity, but through the sacrifice of his Son, we can trust in him and his authority to be our savior and almighty God.

Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever you had formed the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God. (Psalm 90:2)
