How Old Did God Make Adam and Eve?

We love hearing from you and answering your questions! Hope U. asked,
“When God created Adam and Eve, how old did he make them?”
Good question, Hope.
On the sixth day of creation, God made the first man, Adam, out of the dust of the ground (Genesis 2:7). That same day, God also made the first woman, Eve, out of Adam’s rib (Genesis 2:21–22). So, in a sense, Adam and Eve were zero years old when God created them because they had just become alive.
If they were zero years old, did they look and act like babies? No, of course not. Actually, they are the only humans who were never babies (and they didn’t have a birthday, but they did have a “created day”)! So how old did they appear? We can’t know an exact age because the Bible doesn’t tell us, but it does give us some hints:
- The same day Adam and Eve were created, they became husband and wife (Genesis 2:23–24).
- God had conversations with them and gave them responsibilities that he wouldn’t have if they were young children (for example, Genesis 1:28–29).
- They began having children as God commanded, probably soon after God drove them out of the garden of Eden (Genesis 3:24–4:1).
Based on this, Adam and Eve likely appeared to be young adults when God first created them. Adam lived a long life and had many children with Eve. Genesis 5:5 tells us that Adam lived to be 930 years old. Wow! That’s almost as old as Methuselah, the oldest person recorded in the Bible, who lived to be 969 (Genesis 5:27). People certainly aged differently back then.
