Did God Create Evolution?

We love hearing from you and answering your questions! Ben K. asks,

“Did God create evolution in the beginning?”

Thanks for your question, Ben. God knows everything and never lies, and he was the only one present when the universe began. We must get the answer to your question from him!

God tells us in Genesis 1 that he created everything in six days. He simply spoke plants, stars, and animals into existence. Also, Mark 10:6 indicates that God made Adam and Eve at creation’s beginning (they didn’t evolve billions of years after the beginning).

Genesis 1:24 and Mark 10:6

Some people try to make Genesis 1 and evolution fit together, saying that God used evolution to create the world. But evolution doesn’t fit with the Bible at all! Evolution requires years of death and suffering before Adam’s sin. That can’t be true because God said that the world was “very good” before Adam’s sin, and God doesn’t think death and suffering are very good.

Genesis 1:31 and Revelation 21:4

God created people, animals, and plants with the information in their DNA to have variety, but he didn’t make them with the ability to evolve into a completely different kind. For example, apples come in many shapes and sizes today, but an apple tree will never evolve into an orange tree. That’s because God created trees to bear “fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind” (Genesis 1:12).

Genesis 1:11,21,25

To find answers to our questions about earth’s history, we must go to God’s Word and trust what he says. The Creator of the world will always be more trustworthy than the ideas of finite, sinful people.

Why Did God Take Six Days?

God didn’t create the world over billions of years. But why did he take six days and then rest on the seventh? Couldn’t he have just spoken it into existence in a second?

Well, yes. God has the power to create the earth in whatever amount of time he wanted to, but the creation week was seven days long on purpose. Check out this video to learn about that purpose: KidsAnswers.org/why-did-god-make-the-week-7-days-long/.
