Abortion

“For you formed my inward parts; you covered me in my mother’s womb. I with praise you for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are your works, and that my soul knows very well.” (Psalm 139:13–14)

Something very sad, called abortion, happens every day in countries across the world. Abortion is when a baby that is still safe inside its mother’s tummy is killed. Our Bible verse tells us that every person is “fearfully and wonderfully made,” and Genesis 1:27 says that all people are created in God’s image. These verses mean that God specially makes every single baby in His own image. In Jeremiah 1:5 we read, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you.” God is showing us here that each baby is a person, already known by God, before he or she is even born. Psalm 139:16 tells us that God knows how many days we will live even before we live a single day! God is the Creator of all life who gives each person “glory and honor” (Psalm 8:5). Therefore, abortion is wrong because it kills a baby who is special to God and who is carefully and lovingly made in God’s image.
